Faro de l’Albir: Discovering the beauty of Sierra Helada
If you’re looking for a break from the high-rises of Benidorm, the Faro de l’Albir (Albir Lighthouse) is the perfect escape. It offers a blend of easy hiking, stunning Mediterranean views, and a touch of local history.
Here is everything you need to know about the lighthouse, the nature park, and how to get there.
The Sierra Helada Natural Park
The lighthouse is located at the northern tip of the Sierra Helada Natural Park, a protected area famous for its dramatic limestone cliffs that plunge over 300 meters into the sea. The walk to the lighthouse is a paved, 5 km round trip (roughly 2.5 km each way). It is relatively flat, making it accessible for families, casual walkers, and even strollers.

Along the way, you’ll find: The Ochre Mine: Traces of an old mine where Romans once extracted pigments. The Tunnel: A short, cool passage through the rock. Lookout Points: Several "miradores" offering views of Altea, Calpe’s Peñón de Ifach, and the deep blue bay.
The Lighthouse (Faro)
Built in 1863, the lighthouse itself now serves as an Interpretation Center. Inside, you can explore small exhibits about the local marine life and the history of the lighthouse keepers who once lived there.

How to Get There from Benidorm: Albir is the neighboring town to the north of Benidorm. Getting there is straightforward whether you use public transport or a car.
1. By Bus (Recommended): This is the easiest and most scenic way if you don't want to worry about parking. Lines: Take the Number 10 bus (the "Altea" bus). Route: It runs frequently through the main avenues of Benidorm (Av. Mediterráneo or Av. Comunidad Valenciana). Stop: Get off at the Albir Beach (Playa) stop or the stop closest to the "Consum" supermarket in Albir. From there, follow the signs for "Faro de l'Albir" or "Parque Natural."
2. By Car: Route: Take the N-332 or the local coastal road towards Altea/Albir. Parking: Set your GPS to "Parking Faro de l'Albir." There is a dedicated parking lot at the entrance of the natural park, but it fills up very quickly on weekends and holidays, so try to arrive early.
