When most people think of Benidorm, their minds immediately jump to the sprawling, skyscraper-lined horizons of Levante and Poniente beaches. However, tucked away between these two giants lies a serene secret: Playa del Mal Pas.

If you are looking to escape the high-energy crowds without leaving the heart of the city, this little cove is your sanctuary.

The Gateway to Old Town Charm

Mal Pas is a boutique beach experience. Spawning only about 120 meters in length, it is nestled directly below the iconic Canfali hills and the famous Balcón del Mediterráneo. 

To reach it, you wind through the streets of the Old Town (Casco Antiguo). Descending the stairs toward the port feels like stepping out of a bustling city and into a secluded coastal postcard.

Why Mal Pas is a Must-Visit

While it may be small, Mal Pas packs a punch when it comes to quality and atmosphere:

Calm Waters: Protected by the cliffs and the harbor walls, the water here is exceptionally still and clear, making it a favorite for swimmers and snorkelers.

Golden Sands: Despite its size, the sand is fine, clean, and well-maintained, consistently earning the prestigious Blue Flag status.

The View: Looking out from your towel, you have a direct line of sight to Benidorm Island (La Isla de Benidorm), a jagged silhouette on the horizon that adds a touch of drama to the seascape.

Proximity to Culture: Once you’re done sunbathing, you’re mere steps away from the best tapas bars in the region, specifically those in the "Tapas Alley."

A Local Tip

Because Mal Pas is flanked by high stone walls and the "Castle" cliffs, it offers excellent wind protection. If it’s a bit too breezy on the long stretches of Poniente, you’ll often find Mal Pas remains perfectly still and warm. Because of its limited size, space fills up fast during July and August. If you want a front-row spot by the shoreline, aim to arrive before 10:00 AM.

Whether you’re a solo traveler looking for a quiet spot to read or a couple seeking a romantic backdrop, Mal Pas proves that sometimes the best things in Benidorm come in small packages. It is the bridge between the city’s vibrant history and its sapphire-blue future.
